Wood is a material that has been used ever since mankind started making
tools. Even today, wood and wood-based materials have been used for various
purposes close to our life, for example, timber construction (wooden house,
dome, bridge), furniture and musical instrument (piano, guitar, violin).
Furthermore, wood is the material that is carbon storage and is able to
reproduce. Field of timber engineering makes an effort for effective uses
of wood.
There is a lot of subject for effective uses of wood, for example, supply of superior wood, evaluation of performance and development of technology for utilizing wood and wood products, improvement of seismic performance for timber structure. Our laboratory has been made research works on these subjects cover from standing trees to timber constructions.
