All participants are welcome to attend excursion in the afternoon of the fourth day of CRYO2009, July 22, 2009. We arrange a half-day bus trip to Otaru City, an old, historic harbor town with a lot of tourist attractions, located approximately 40 km northeast of Sapporo along the Japan Sea coast.

For the Japanese, Otaru has an atmosphere and sophistication of a foreign land and is known as a romantic and nostalgic city. As a herring-fishing town it was once the financial hub of Hokkaido, with its major financial institutes concentrated around the "Wall Street of the North". The stone and brick-built western-style buildings and old Japanese-style buildings, once the premises of banks and trading companies, still remain around the town. You will tour an old Japanese-style house and have time to walk around downtown by your own. You may make your own sushi or your own music box (orgel) if you want. At the end of the excursion, we will stop by a sushi shop for dinner.

Fee is not included in the registration fee and 5,000JPY per person including transportation, dinner and insurance. Fees for your own sushi-making (2,500JPY) or music box making (2,500JPY) are not included and optional and you can book a space for these activities by e-mail to the Secretary by July 11. Payment for optional activities should be made at the registration desk. Participants who wish to attend the excursion should indicate it on the registration form. If space is available, late booking may be available. Please check it with the Secretary by e-mail or fax.
